MILWAUKEE – Incumbent Mayor Tom Barrett will be the featured speaker at a Newsmaker Luncheon, hosted jointly by the Milwaukee Press Club, WisPolitics.com and the Rotary Club of Milwaukee on Wednesday, March 25 at the Newsroom Pub.

A Milwaukee native, Barrett, 66, is seeking re-election for a fifth term in the April 7 general election. He has served as the city’s mayor since 2004 when he defeated incumbent Marvin Pratt; he was re-elected in 2008, 2012 and 2016. Barrett was the Democratic candidate for Wisconsin governor in the 2010 general election and in a recall election in 2012, losing each time to the incumbent, Republican Scott Walker.

Previously, Barrett served in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Wisconsin’s 5th congressional district from 1993 to 2003. In the Wisconsin Legislature, Barrett first won  election in 1984 to the Assembly for District 14; he later won election to the state Senate for District 5, where he served until his election to Congress.

Barrett received a bachelor’s degree in economics and a law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Barrett will take questions from a panel of journalists and from the audience at the luncheon, set for 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Newsroom Pub, 137 E. Wells St.

Advanced registration and payment are required. Registration deadline is Friday, March 20.

Press club Newsmaker Luncheons are held to shed light on issues of the day. The cost for the lunch and program is $20 for MPC members, $25 for non-members and $15 for students.
