MILWAUKEE – The Milwaukee Press Club will present a Newsmaker Luncheon on Thursday, January 19, 2016, featuring playwright and novelist Ayad Akhtar.
The public is invited to attend the event from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Newsroom Pub in downtown Milwaukee at 137 E. Wells St.
Akhtar was raised in Milwaukee where he graduated from Brookfield Central High School. In 2013, he won a Pulitzer Prize for his play Disgraced, which is currently being staged at Milwaukee Repertory Theater this January 17 – February 12. Akhtar was nominated for a Tony award in 2015, and his plays The Who & The What and The Invisible Hand are currently being produced around the world. Milwaukee Repertory Theater produced The Invisible Hand last February, the start of a four play partnership with Akhtar which will culminate in a commission of a new world premiere play.
Akhtar will be interviewed by a panel of Milwaukee journalists and also will take questions from the audience.
The Milwaukee Press Club’s Newsmaker Luncheon Series is sponsored by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
The Milwaukee Press Club presents the Newsmaker Luncheons to shed light on issues of the day. The public is invited to attend the luncheons. The cost to attend is $18 for MPC members, $23 for non-members, $13 for students. Lunch is included. Seating is limited. Advanced registration and payment are required and may be done by booking below. Checks may be mailed to the MPC at PO Box 176, North Prairie, WI 53153-0176. Cancellations will be accepted up to 48 hours in advance for a full refund.
