MILWAUKEE – Marcelle Polednik will be the featured speaker at a Milwaukee Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Polednik, the Donna and Donald Baumgartner Director of the Milwaukee Art Museum, has focused on the artistic direction of the museum, along with increasing its role in the community and widening its appeal to all of southeastern Wisconsin.
Polednik will take questions from a panel of journalists and from the audience at the luncheon, set for 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Newsroom Pub, 137 E. Wells St. The event is open to the public.
Previously, Polednik was director and chief curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville at the University of North Florida. Polednik is a specialist in contemporary art and earned her doctorate in art history from New York University in 2009. Born in Poland, Polednik spent her childhood in Czechoslovakia, Los Angeles and Deerfield, Ill. She is a native speaker of Polish and Czech and is fluent in Slovak, Spanish, French and German.
Polednik plans to talk about her growth plans for the museum and how she is working to make it an even bigger part of southeastern Wisconsin.
The press club’s Newsmaker Luncheon Series is open to the public and sponsored by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, to focus on issues of the day. The cost to attend is $20 for MPC members, $25 for non-members and $15 for students. Lunch is included. Seating is limited.
