The Milwaukee Press Club, one of the oldest continuously operating press clubs in the world, will host its annual Gridiron Awards Dinner on May 12th at the InterContinental Hotel in Milwaukee. This year’s event will be timely, poignant, and not-to-be missed.
We are pleased to welcome this year’s Sacred Cat award winner, David Fahrenthold.
You may not recognize his name, but you will certainly recognize his reporting for the Washington Post. Called “one of the journalism stars of the 2016 campaign” by Poynter, Fahrenthold landed scoop after scoop in this past year’s election, crowdsourcing tips and leads from followers, celebrity and otherwise, on social media. His relentless pursuit of the truth produced revealing information about the Trump Foundation, and one now infamous “Access Hollywood” bus video.
This year’s Headliner Awards will be presented to Dr. Howard Fuller and Carmen Pitre. Headliner Awards are bestowed annually to local newsmakers who are making a positive difference. Dr. Howard Fuller is a civil rights activist, and education reform advocate and Carmen Pitre is president and chief executive officer of Sojourner Family Peace Center.
There are three ways to get involved with the Gridiron Awards event and support the Milwaukee Press Club’s journalistic mission, and students pursuing careers in journalism:
This event also recognizes the Press Club Endowment’s Annual Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism award winners. Most importantly, proceeds from this event help to ensure the quality of Southeastern Wisconsin’s journalistic community for years to come through college scholarships, mentoring, professional development and industry advocacy.
