The Milwaukee Press Club will host its annual Gridiron Awards Dinner on May 15^th at the InterContinental Hotel in Milwaukee. This event recognizes the Press Club Foundation’s Annual Excellence in Wisconsin Journalism award winners, as well as its coveted Sacred Cat and Headliner Awards.  Most importantly, proceeds from this event help to ensure the quality of Southeastern Wisconsin’s journalistic community for years to come through college scholarships, mentoring, professional development and industry advocacy.

Sacred Cat award winner, Ann Compton, is a former ABC News White House Correspondent and Hall of Fame journalist who has covered everything from presidential campaigns to the White House to the fall of the Soviet Union.

This year’s Headliner Award will be presented to Ricardo Diaz and Linda Mellowes. Headliner Awards are bestowed annually to local newsmakers who are making a positive difference. Ricardo Diaz is executive director of the United Community Center and Linda Mellowes is a community volunteer/fundraiser who is making a huge difference in southeastern Wisconsin. There are three ways to get involved with the Gridiron Awards event and support the Milwaukee Press Club’s mission:

• Become a Sponsor – To show your support for the honorees and the Press Club’s more than 300 professional members, there are three event sponsor levels, each offering different benefits. Sponsors will enjoy exposure at this well-attended event, as well as seats at the event.
• Advertise in Once A Year – For those interested in celebrating the honorees, the annual Once A Year magazine will be published to recognize these award winners and support the Club. For more than 116 years, this magazine has provided an important record for the club and has been mailed to Club members and community leaders as a keepsake.
